Strawberry Hotels: A Nordic Stay for Every Kind of Traveller

I have a slightly embarrassing travel habit: I will spend ages planning the day and then treat the hotel as an afterthought. Strawberry has made me reconsider that. This is not simply a place to put your suitcase while you dash around Oslo, Stockholm or Copenhagen. It is a very large Nordic hospitality world, with more than 250 hotels across six countries, plus food, wellness, events and experiences under the same colourful umbrella.

So, what is Strawberry actually about, and why should a first-time visitor care? In short, it is a way to choose a stay around your mood. You can book a straightforward city base through Strawberry hotels, make a longer Nordic road trip with a Summer Pass, or pick a hotel where dinner and the small comforts are already built into the rhythm of the stay.

That breadth is the interesting bit. Strawberry feels practical enough for a quick work trip, but it also understands that a weekend away should feel like more than a room key and a receipt. I have looked through the range and pulled together the details that make the brand easier to understand before you book.

Explore Strawberry hotels

A hotel group with a distinctly Nordic point of view

Strawberry began as Nordic Choice Hotels before taking on its current name and wider identity. The change says quite a lot about the ambition: this is a hospitality brand trying to connect places and people, rather than offering one uniform idea of luxury. Its hotels stretch from convenient airport and roadside stops to design-led city properties, historic buildings and resort-style escapes.

The geography is a genuine strength. You can use the hotel search to look at Stockholm stays, browse Oslo hotels, or plan around Copenhagen accommodation and still remain within the same ecosystem. For me, that makes Strawberry particularly useful when a trip has more than one stop.

  • City breaks: choose a central base for food, museums, shopping and late checkouts.
  • Road trips: link together destinations across Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark and Lithuania.
  • Family travel: look for practical rooms, easy transport links and packages built around activities.
  • Work travel: add meeting rooms, breakfast, gyms and reliable locations without starting from scratch.

There is also a useful distinction between finding a hotel and finding the right type of hotel. That is where the brand families come in.

The range: six ways to find your fit

The main hotel families are Comfort Hotel, Quality Hotel, Clarion Hotel, Home Hotel, Stopover and Independent Hotels. They are not just colour variations. Each has a slightly different reason for existing, which is handy when you know what sort of trip you are having.

Comfort Hotel is the uncomplicated option: useful locations, a lighter approach and the things you need for an easy night away. Quality Hotel leans towards family-friendly stays, meetings and larger properties. Clarion Hotel is the one I would investigate for a more energetic city break, with design, restaurants, rooftop settings and a sense that the lobby might actually be part of the evening.

Home Hotel is designed around the feeling of settling in.

Then there is Home Hotel, which is probably the clearest expression of Strawberry’s softer side. Breakfast, fika and dinner are included, so you can arrive in a new city without immediately opening a map to find somewhere to eat. The promise is simple: make yourself at home, with less admin. As someone who has eaten crisps for dinner in a perfectly nice hotel room, I appreciate the intervention.

Stopover is aimed at the practical pause in a longer journey, while Independent Hotels gives individual properties more room to show personality. That last category matters because Strawberry is not trying to flatten every destination into the same experience. The range is broad, but the point is still local character.

Three Strawberry offers worth knowing

A brand introduction is only useful if it gets specific, so here are three concrete routes into Strawberry. Prices and availability can change, but these offers show how varied the range can be.

Summer Pass – Standard

The Summer Pass – Standard is the big idea: five hotel nights for €600, with 140 participating hotels across Sweden, Norway, Finland and Lithuania. The nights can be spread out, which makes it more useful than a rigid package. I can imagine using two nights in Stockholm, one in Oslo, then adding a slower coastal stop instead of forcing the whole holiday into one base.

  • Five nights in a double room at the Standard level.
  • Access to 140 participating hotels.
  • Valid for summer stays from 18 June to 24 August 2026.
  • Rebooking is possible until 4pm on the day of arrival.

A pass works well for a flexible Nordic road trip.

If you are watching the budget, the Summer Pass – Budget is €450 for five nights and covers 76 hotels. It is a more focused choice, not necessarily a lesser one. The key question is whether your preferred destinations appear on the Budget list. I would check that before getting carried away with an elaborate route.

Summer dinner package

The Summer dinner package pairs a hotel night with dinner and breakfast at a package price. That sounds small, but it changes the shape of a short break. You can arrive late, eat without researching reviews in a language you do not speak, and start the next morning with breakfast already sorted. It is particularly appealing for a city weekend when the hotel is part of the plan rather than merely a place to sleep.

Restaurant and bar experience at a Strawberry hotel
Restaurants and bars are part of Strawberry’s wider offer.

More than a room: food, wellness and experiences

This is the part that makes Strawberry feel like a lifestyle brand rather than a booking directory. You can browse its restaurants and bars, book a spa experience, look at events and build a trip around culture and music packages. There are also family and sports packages, conference spaces and larger venues such as Strawberry Arena.

That matters if you want the hotel to do some of the organising for you. A spa day can turn a spare afternoon into an actual plan. A music package can give a weekend its centrepiece. A family offer can remove the question of what to do after breakfast. The brand is strongest when it helps you create a complete stay, not just reserve a bed.

Outdoor infinity pool at a Strawberry spa
Spa-led stays add a slower pace to the hotel collection.

Membership adds another layer. Members can find their bookings in one place, receive access to offers and earn Spenn points when eligible stays are booked while logged in. I would not join solely for the points, but if you are likely to use Strawberry more than once, the membership programme makes the wider network more rewarding.

Find a stay for your next trip

How I would choose a Strawberry stay

My shortcut would be to start with the trip, not the hotel name. Decide whether you need a central city base, a restorative spa setting, a family-friendly property or a stopover that makes a longer journey easier. Then compare the hotel families and check what is included. The small details are often the difference between a good deal and a frustrating one.

  1. Choose the destination and dates, then check the available Strawberry hotels.
  2. Pick the hotel family that matches your pace, from simple and practical to food-led or design-conscious.
  3. Compare the room rate with a relevant weekend offer, dinner package or Summer Pass.
  4. Check breakfast, spa access, pet rules, family room details and cancellation terms before paying.
  5. If you expect to return, sign in or consider joining Strawberry membership.

The collection makes it easy to pair a hotel with outdoor adventure.

There is no single Strawberry experience, which is both its appeal and the one thing to remember. A compact Comfort Hotel room and a historic Independent Hotel are not interchangeable. Neither is a Home Hotel stay with dinner included the same as a quick airport stop. Read the details, and let the destination do some of the choosing.

My verdict on Strawberry

For a first-time reader, Strawberry is worth knowing because it offers a rare combination: Nordic scale with plenty of choice, but enough different hotel personalities to keep a trip from feeling generic. I like the practical flexibility of the Summer Pass, the calm logic of Home Hotel and the fact that food, wellness and events are treated as part of the stay rather than distractions from it.

Map of Strawberry hotel destinations in the Nordics
A broad network makes multi-stop Nordic travel more achievable.

If you are planning a Nordic city break, a summer road trip or simply a weekend where someone else handles dinner, I would start with the full Strawberry range and narrow it down from there. Browse the hotel brands, check the latest offers, and keep an eye on the details that make your kind of travel easier. That is where this brand makes the most sense.

Naomi Fielding spent ten years on the other side of the hotel front desk, which means she knows exactly which 'family-friendly' promises hold up and which ones fall apart by bedtime. Three children later, she plans trips the way she always wished someone had planned them for her - honest about the chaos, generous with the shortcuts, and realistic about what a good day actually looks like with little ones in tow. She writes about family travel and hospitality with a warmth that comes from having handled every checkout-time meltdown, both sides of the counter. Naomi loves a proper hotel breakfast more than is strictly reasonable, and she will always tell you whether the kids' club is genuinely good or just a room with a telly. Her goal is to help you travel with children and, against all odds, actually enjoy it.
